Privacy Policy
Effective September 28, 2026
This policy explains what Caelaron (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit caelaron.com (the “Site”) or use the Weatherman web app, including its invitation-only beta (the “App”), together the “Services”. We sell nothing about you and are paid nothing for any of it.
What we collect
When you join the waiting list on the Site: your first and last name, email address and ZIP code, when you joined, and when you accepted these terms and this policy. We email you a link to confirm the address is yours, and you are on the list only once you open it. This is the only place the Site stores your email address.
When you use the App without an account, the App creates an anonymous identity for your browser. It holds no name or email. Tied to it we keep:
- what you ask the App and the answers it gives, including the places it suggested;
- the location a request was made from, as a coordinate, when you share your location or name a place;
- where you asked for directions to, and the route and weather along it;
- ratings and comments you leave about a place;
- a log of how the App is used, such as searches, screens opened and how long they took to load.
When you create an account: your email address, a hash of your password (never the password itself) or the identifier of the Google or Apple account you signed in with, the username, name and photo you add to your profile, and the chats you have while signed in.
Automatically: a cookie and a browser-stored credential that keep your anonymous identity, and an approximate location estimated from your network address by our content delivery network. To limit abuse we derive a one-way code from your network, browser, platform, timezone and screen size. We keep the code, not the values.
Notifications: if you allow them, the address your browser gave us to reach it, used only to tell you when you have arrived somewhere so you can rate it.
Precise location is sensitive information. We use it only to answer the request it came with. The App asks for nothing else that privacy laws treat as sensitive, and we ask you not to type such information into it.
How we use it
- To provide the Services: forecasting the weather at a place and time, finding and ranking places, planning routes and remembering your chats.
- To run the waiting list and send you an invitation when a place opens up.
- To keep the Services secure, prevent abuse and enforce rate limits.
- To understand how the Services are used and improve them.
- To contact you about your account, invitation or these policies.
We do not use your information for advertising and do not sell it.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the providers that help us run the Services, and only what each one needs:
- Amazon Web Services hosts the Services and stores our data, sends our email and tells us whether it was opened and which links in it were clicked, and runs the language model that reads your questions and writes answers.
- Foursquare provides place information. We send it the area and kind of place being searched for.
- Mapbox provides maps, place names and directions. It receives the coordinates needed to draw a map or compute a route.
- Google and Apple, if you sign in with them.
- Your browser’s push service, if you allow notifications.
- Cloudflare answers requests for our domain name.
Weather data comes from public sources such as NOAA and does not involve sending your information to them.
Session recording. The App can use Microsoft Clarity to record how screens are used. It is currently switched off. If it is switched on, it runs only with your consent where the App asks for it, and never when your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. Microsoft holds what Clarity records under its own terms, which may count as “sharing” under some state laws; you can also opt out at optout.aboutads.info.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of our business.
How long we keep it
- Chats, searches and routes: 13 months.
- Ratings and comments: 13 months after you leave them.
- Your anonymous identity and its usage log: until 13 months after you last used the App.
- Weather readings behind a search: 30 days.
- Your waiting-list entry: until you leave the list or we remove it, or 7 days if you never confirm your email address.
- Your account, profile and saved chats: until the account is deleted.
- Abuse-prevention codes: 30 days after last use.
Your choices and rights
- Leave the waiting list at any time through the link in your invitation, or by emailing hello@caelaron.com. If you never confirm your address, you are removed on your own after 7 days.
- Location, notifications and cookies can be turned off in your browser. The App may not work fully without location.
- Starting a new anonymous identity from the App disconnects your future use from your past use.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know, access, correct or delete your information, and to opt out of sharing. To make a request, email hello@caelaron.com. We will verify the request and answer within the time the law allows, and will not treat you differently for making one.
Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect information in transit and at rest with encryption, store passwords and credentials only as one-way hashes, and limit access to the people who run the Services. No system is perfectly secure.
Changes to this policy
We will post any change here and update the effective date. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or in the App before it takes effect.
